Many people think Keanu Reeves has lived a charmed life. Although Keanu is famous and has lots of money, his personal life has been touched by devastating sadness. Despite all he's been through, Keanu is one of the kindest, most compassionate celebrities.
His first hardship happened when he was very young - his father left the family. It is widely reported that this occurred when Keanu was three. Reports vary, but all agree that his dad left when he was no more than five.
He was diagnosed with dyslexia and struggled throughout his school years.
At age 23, his best friend, River Phoenix, died of a drug overdose.
In 1999, Keanu's girlfriend, Jennifer Syme, was pregnant with their daughter. The tiny girl, which they named Ava, was stillborn eight months into the pregnancy. Their relationship did not survive the loss of their little girl.
18 months later, Jennifer was killed in a car accident.
His younger sister, Kim, was diagnosed with leukemia.
Compassion & Kindness
Despite all the sadness, Keanu seems to have no bitterness, and truly wants to make the world a better place. He's humble and generous, in ways both big and small.
He was photographed giving up his seat in a crowded NYC subway to a woman with a large bag. Keanu once bought an ice cream cone just so he could autograph the receipt for a young fan.
There are really big kindnesses too. It is reported that he secretly donates large sums of money to children's hospitals and cancer research.
While filming The Matrix, in a sweeping act of generosity and to show his appreciation for the talented stunt men, he bought Harley-Davidson motorcycles for all of all of them. He gifted 12 motorcycles!
He once helped a homeless teenaged mom. He bought her a meal and bus ticket home. He also gave her $100 for incidentals - wipes, formula, snacks for the trip, etc. But his kindness didn't stop there. He actually called her mom to help them reconcile and repair their relationship.
I don't know about you, but Keanu Reeves' kind heart leaves me speechless.
Keanu is a nice guy. A really nice guy.
I wish more people were like Keanu.
This man can afford to buy anything in the world, but instead he chooses something money can't buy: being a good person.
Things Money Can't Buy
This got me thinking about all the wonderful stuff that money can't buy. Here's one of those things: carefree days of childhood. Remember those days? Picture it: strolling under a clear blue sky on warm spring day, chewing a wad of pink bubble gum and not having a care in the world.
That's what inspired our bubble gum swirl loafers. We swirled bubble gum pink and shades of sky blue as a reminder of the joy and innocence of childhood.
What do you think about Keanu? Have you ever experience a random act of kindness?
